Welcome, and thank you for reading the LyricWell blog! To start things off, I am going to post eight weekly creative exercises. Each one is a chapter from my upcoming book Break Your Creative Block and is designed to help you build creative habits into your life. I’ve put together these exercises to help you unlock your creative potential. Though there is no quick formula for developing creativity, these exercises are designed to help you take small, weekly steps in the right direction.
Stop Mental Autopilot to Break Your Creative Block
Doing the same thing all the time keeps your mind on autopilot, it’s not actually thinking/working/creating. Doing something new or different will force your mind to start working. Most of the exercises, designed to push your creativity along by taking your mind off autopilot, can be done in 15 minutes or less and fit into one of the following categories:
- Writing (Connect the Dots A Random Word Writing Exercise)
- Non-dominant Side (Stretching… For Your Brain)
- Exercise/Play/Health (Time to Stretch)
- Imagination (Starry Starry Night)
- Thinking (Creating Topical Lists)
- Reading (Reading Magazines for Creative Ideas)
- Art (Use This Artistic Exercise to Release Your Inner Child and Build Creative Confidence)
- Time Saving/Productivity (Don’t Think Outside the Box)
Check back every Monday morning to get your weekly dose of creativity!
